What to Expect

Welcome to the Frame Therapeutics. We hope the responses below help to support your pre and post- session experience. If you do not find answers to your questions, feel free to reach out to us at info@frame-therapeutics.com.

Why see a Craniosacral Therapist or Manual Therapist?

Most people first seek manual therapy care for pain-related complaints. These problems can be recent or long-term. They may be related to a specific condition, sports injuries, car accidents, falls, surgeries, birth or other traumas. Click here to read more about common conditions treated in adults.

For infants, many seek Craniosacral Therapy to assist with general discomfort, colic, constipation, sleep and feeding issues. Click here for a list of more conditions.

What can I expect from my first session?

Your first appointment will lasts longer than subsequent appointments, to allow your practitioner time to:

  • Take a full medical history, listen and ask questions about your condition, discuss other medical care you are receiving or medication you are taking. The information you provide will be confidential.

  • Do a full physical assessment. You will be asked to make simple movements and stretches, to observe your posture and mobility. Depending on the presenting area of concern, you may be asked to remove some of your clothing.

  • Your practitioner will examine the health of the joints, tissues and ligaments.

  • Your practitioner will give you a clear explanation of what they found in their assessment. If treatment is deemed appropriate, a treatment plan will be discussed with you and will begin during the initial session.  Treatment is hands-on and involves skilled manipulation of joints and massage of soft tissues. Your practitioner may also advise lifestyle changes and self-help measures such as stretches and exercises.

Do I need to prepare anything before the session?

  • You will receive an intake form, our policies and liability waiver. We can do the intake form together during the first session if you don’t have time to fill it out.

  • Wear loose comfortable clothing

How long is each session?

The first session lasts one hour and the subsequent ones generally last up to 45 minutes but longer sessions are allocated if it is deemed necessary.

What can I expect from follow up treatments?

Each treatment will start with a brief review of your symptoms and a quick reassessment to monitor your progress. Treatment will then consist of soft tissue techniques (massage), joint mobilizations, Craniosacral therapy and/or a series of stretches and/or exercises that you will be guided through.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies depending on the problem. Some conditions may need a course of between 2-6 sessions and that will be it. Other problems may benefit from a course initially and then a few sessions over the following few months. After this point, a maintenance treatment plan can be discussed.

Is a referral from a doctor necessary?

No, you do not need a referral from your physician to receive treatment.
